Ramu NiCo donates 50 beds to Rai Coast High School

STUDENTS at the Lutheran run Rai Coast High School in the Rai Coast District of Madang province will now be able to sleep in comfortable beds, thanks to Ramu NiCo, the developer of Ramu nickel/cobalt Project in Madang.

On Monday May 28, 2012, Ramu NiCo donated a total of 50 double bunker beds each costing K90. to the school in a small ceremony at Basamuk Refinery in the Rai Coast district.

The beds will accommodate up to 100 students.

Present during the donation ceremony were Company representatives including vice president Mr. Pang Hengli, deputy general manager of community affairs (CA) George Wang and CA staff included Kingsley Zhang Haoen, Nick Genaia and Kilisi Sapom.

Rai Coast High School headmaster Mr. Alfred Nabong was present to receive the beds on behalf of the school and witnessed by staff of the school and Basamuk landowners association chairman, Lima Mullung.

Mr. Pang presented the beds on behalf of Ramu NiCo to the headmaster, Mr. Nabong and said that Ramu NiCo is pleased to assist the school with the beds for the students to have good rest during their tenure at school.

He said students’ education is very important for the country and Ramu NiCo is proud to assist in this vital human resource development.

When receiving the donation, Mr. Nabong thanked Ramu NiCo on behalf of the school and parents for the timely help.

Mr. Nabong said this is not the first time Ramu NiCo has assisted the school.

The major assistance by Ramu NiCo towards the school was in 2010 when the Company donated K40,000. worth of tractor for its agriculture activities.

Basamuk Landowner Association Chairman Lima Mullung also thanked Ramu NiCo for taking the initiative in assisting the school with the donation that will directly benefit the landowners and their children.

Rai Coast high school once pride itself as one of the best high schools in the country but now experiences severe deteriorating infrastructures including run-down student’s dormitories, massing facilities, abolition blocks among others.
