n Beneficiation Plant of KBK Mine, there are 11 members in the Chromite transportation team, including both Chinese and PNG nationals. Since the team was established, they have always been reinforcing the management and training, making new records of chromite transportation capacity.
In March 2018, the team not only completed the target of 6,000t , but also increased the transportation ability up to 9500t. In April 2018, the target was increased to 10,000t per month, the team has achieved the transportation load up to 14,580t with good organization and arrangement, which created the highest transportation record in a single month. And since then, the team always overachieves the company’s target.
In order to guarantee the safety of vehicles and people during the transportation, the team arranged two escort vehicles for the trucks. On the one hand, it can strictly control the trucks’ speed, on the other hand, it can remind other vehicles to wait for the chromite trucks.
Before July 2018, the team used to pack the chromite with small bags, then transfer the bags to containers with forklift, finally lift the containers onto the trucks with mobile crane. In practice, the superintendent Mr. Sun Aihui found that it has obvious disadvantage to pack chromite with small bags. Firstly, it cost much workforce; secondly, the bags are easily damaged by forklift which increased the operation cost; thirdly, the intensive work caused fatigue and hazards to employees.
Therefore, Mr. Sun communicated with Equipment and Technology Department, and looked up information, finally, the team changed the packing method, starting to install linings inside containers and directly load the chromite into the containers with skid loader. Thus, the efficiency increased and the work load as well as the human cost and packaging cost are reduced. Chromite transportation performance became safer and more effective.
Transportation of chromite concentrate has brought much needed employment opportunities to landowners, improved their knowledge and skills, as well as brought more business spinoffs for local contractors and improved livelihood of local communities.
