In Basamuk Refinery, four new blocks were put into use in old camp to improve the living conditions of contractor employees providing services to the refinery.

There are more than one hundred contractor employees living in old camp who work in Basamuk Refinery, including Raibus Security, NCS, REL etc., the rooms were worn down for years and not safe for living. In order to improve the condition and safety of accommodation, the company decided to construct four new buildings in old camp to improve employees’ living standard.

There are altogether 60 rooms in the four buildings. New facilities were installed in each room which includes solar water heater, air conditioner, wardrobe etc., the floor was also paved with tiles. The domestic water connected to each room is directly from the overhead water tank in refinery, the transit water tank in old camp was removed. CMD also installed water boiler and laundry machines in old camp, which provides much convenience for residents.

After the handover, these buildings experienced several earthquakes and storms, but no defect or leakage happened in any room, which indicates the good quality and reliability of these buildings.

After modification, the safety of old camp was also improved significantly. On one hand, the electrical installation strictly followed the standards of PNG and Australia under the supervision of Registered Mine Electrician, and was inspected and accepted by PNG Power, which guarantees the safety and compliance of electrical installations and facilities. Besides, the perimeter around the old camp was replaced by brand new fences, which stops non-related personnel from entering the old camp and improves the overall safety of old camp.

The new buildings in old camp not only provides a more comfortable environment for contractor employees, but also shows the company’s focus to employee health.
