BSK ERT, the reigning champions of the PNG Extractive Industry Emergency Response Challenge are busy preparing for this year’s event to defend their title.
Ramu NiCo won the title in 2017 when the challenge was held at the PNG Maritime College ground in Madang.
The team in 2017 ER challenge toppled eight teams from other mining and petroleum companies around the country to take out the title. Participating team were from Ok Tedi, Barrick Porgera, Simberi, Harmony Gold, Oil Search and Newcrest Lihir Gold.
In preparation for the upcoming ER challenge, the reigning champs has undergone intense training on cliff rescue at the limestone mine about two kilometers uphill from the refinery site.
BSK ERT superintendent Mr. Sapak said that the ERT must be trained and prepared at all times should there be an incident involving a worker falling off or trapped within the benches.
He said his team is ready to defend their title this year in October in POM.
