In celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of People’s Republic of China, basketball, table tennis and badminton games were organized at KBK Mine, Basamuk Refinery and Madang Base, which attracted large audience of both Chinese and national employees on site.
There are 3 teams representing KBK Mine, BSK Refinery and Functional Departments participating in the games, which kicked-off in Mid-September and lasted till October 1st, the National Day of China.
On the first day of the games, President Gao Yongxue made opening remarks to observe the important National Day of China, he also expressed his sincere gratitude to all Chinese and PNG national employees on behalf of the company by saying “It is the dedication and hard-work of every employee of Ramu NiCo that makes this project the industrial benchmark for PNG and the international mining industry. Both China and PNG should take pride in the project.” President Gao also wished the event a great success and noted that the games were to improve occupational health of the Company’s employees, and he encouraged everyone to exercise more and build up their bodies in their spare time
The badminton game started as of 15th September, players representing Mine, Refinery and Functional Departments all gave their best to win the game. The audience shouted and applauded loudly for the players who displayed their best skills on the court. After fierce competition, the combination of Mr. Meng Weibin and Mr. Jia Luping from the Refinery won the championship for badminton doubles while Mr. Ma Zaiquan won the first place for badminton singles with amazing performance.
On September 23rd, three basketball teams gathered at KBK Mine providing a feast of strength and skill to employees on site. Players displayed not only their physical strength but also carefully planned tactics. The crowd were deeply impressed by their performance. After three days of competition, Team Basamuk won the championship and showcased their solid team strength while Team KBK came as the runner-up.
On September 26th, the teams competed in the table tennis game at Madang Base, the competition was even more intense than expected, audience were spoiled with extraordinary rallies and amazing smashes. Team KBK won the championship for team competition while the champion of table tennis singles went to Mr. Meng Weibin from the Refinery, Mr. Zhang Wenjin from Procurement & Logistics Department and Mr. He Yulei from Equipment & Technology Department came as the second and the third respectively.
In the month-long competition, both Chinese and PNG national employees took active part in the games, which is a good chance for employees to relax and strengthen their friendship. Through the fierce and intense games, both players and audience learned the importance of persistence and never giving up and they will definitely come back to work as better team players.
