COMMUNITY Affairs officers from the Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited based at Basamuk Refinery recently visited seven mine impacted villagers in Rai Coast district to reinforce awareness on the Covid-19.
This was to ensure that the impacted communities were informed of the current situation surrounding Covid-19 in the country and globally so that they ould remain cautious and vigilant and continue to apply healthy measures in restricting the virus from entering their communities.
The two-day awareness on January 6-7 covered seven villages including the populous settlements of Ganglau, Mindre and Duman, and Kokou fresh roduce market, reaching a large number of people.
The villagers were informed that during the festive period of 2020 towards 2021 the Covid-19 outbreaks had been reported in West New Britain and Western provinces, bringing the country’s total confirmed cases to a new high.
Furthermore, the villagers were told that 2020 has been an unusual year plagued by the Covid-19 pandemic which had hit hard on many countries in the world, including PNG.
The awareness was also to safeguard the wellbeing of its local workforce and their families. Police officers also assisted the Ramu NiCo team in rolling out the awareness exercises considering the recent rise of infected numbers and potential risk for Basamuk communities.
