Health workers at the Kurumbukari (KBK) site clinic served both the employees and the villagers.

The well-being of employees and local villagers is a long-term objective of Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited (RNML) under health safety and environment management.

Thus RNML complies with the AS/NZS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety Standards as well as ISO 14001 Environment standards.

Ramu NiCo’s Nursing Officer at KBK, Shirin Kavanamur said the KBK Site Clinic is an adult clinic that opens 10 hours during the day and night.

“The Clinic is a reliable functional clinic that serves both the employees and villagers,” said Shirin.

They had assisted Enekuwai Clinic with medical aid and worked closely with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) under the Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Department to treat casualties and provide health care.

“We have medical facilities like electrocardiogram (ECG) with other machines and equipment in the clinic,” said Shirin.

In situations of casualties that were beyond their control they would do referrals to Walium Health Centre and Madang Provincial Hospital.

The clinic has rooms to accommodate patients in situations that are needed.  There are three nursing officers at KBK, two officers on duty at night and one during the day.

The most common sicknesses like fever, malaria, cough, back pain and other less serious sickness, can receive timely treatment in the clinic.

The clinic has monthly schedules for employees from different departments to have medical examinations on eye tests, heights, weights, ECG, blood pressure, etc.

“We wouldn’t reject villagers when they seek medical help from us.  We are used to give them the same treatment as the employees,” said Shirin.

KBK’s Kitchen Hand employee, Korai David who hails from Bundi in Usino Bundi District, Mandag Province, has worked for a year now in KBK, said she once visited the clinic and was happy about the health services it provided to us the employees and the villagers.

RNML prioritizes the well-being of its employees and local communities based on its long-term objective. In accordance, HSE does its best to foster and improve good health for everyone and the environment in Ramu NiCo Project areas.
