On May 20th, 2024, Hon. Kessy Sawang, Minister of PNG Labor & Employment Department and MP of Rai Coast District of Madang Province, highly extolled and praised Ramu NiCo for its strong support to local economic and social development.
Kessy Sawang made the above statement when attending the opening ceremony of roofing iron factory in Bobidik village near Basamuk Refinery in Madang Province. Many government officials attended the opening ceremony and witnessed this historic moment together. The ceremony site was filled with a festive atmosphere, and residents from surrounding communities came to celebrate the opening of the roofing iron factory.
Before the inauguration, Ramu NiCo deployed heavy machinery including excavators, loaders, and trucks to prepare the site and refurbish access roads. On the day of the ceremony, Ramu NiCo provided comprehensive logistical support to Hon. Kessy Sawang and her entourage, including transportation, catering, and security services. For many years, local residents have been using kunai grass and sago leaves to build their roofs, but due to population growth and climate change, these traditional materials have become increasingly scarce. In order to improve community housing conditions and protect natural resources, under the initiative of Kessy Sawang, the government funded the construction of this roofing iron factory. The roofing iron will be distributed to the communities for free, benefiting not only individual households but also aiding in the development of infrastructures such as schools and healthcare facilities. The slogan of this project is “RAUSIM KUNAI/MOROTA NA PUTIM KAPA”, which means “remove kunai grass and sago leaves and replace them with roofing iron”.
Since the establishment of Ramu NiCo in Madang Province, Ramu NiCo has always been proactively participating in and supporting community development, committed to improving the living conditions of local residents. Ramu NiCo not only provides support in technology and equipment, but also organizes employees to participate in volunteer service activities, establishing deep friendships and cooperative relationships with local residents. Ramu NiCo will continue to fulfill its social responsibility, assist in the comprehensive development of local economy and society, and write a new chapter for the friendship and cooperation between the two countries’ peoples.
