The Ramu NiCo Workers Union is set to effect its operation following the Award Agreement presentation by the Acting Industrial Registrar Helen N Saleu at a special ceremony held on Wednesday, 21 May, 2025 at the Ramu NiCo head office in Madang.

The Award Agreement, which recognizes the union’s significant contributions to the mining sector, was presented to the union executives and Ramu NiCo Vice President Meng Deyong.

Mrs. Saleu also conducted the Union Induction, highlighting the importance of partnerships in achieving economic and social development in the country.

“Companies must work with partners who share the responsibilities of economic and social development in any country,” Mrs. Saleu said.

“A union and the government or the employers will work together to ensure that equal partnership must come with freedom and responsibility.” She stated.

Mrs Saleu went on to emphasize that the achievements of the union must not only benefit its members but also contribute to the overall development of the country.

“The responsibility of the union is not just for the benefits of its members but also for the development of the nation,” she said.

The Industrial Registrar also encouraged the union to continue working towards improving the lives of its members and the progress of the mining industry as a whole.

The Ramu NiCo Workers Union executives, representing more than1,000 national workers in the Ramu Nickel-Cobalt Mine, expressed their gratitude for the Award Agreement and reaffirmed their commitment to working towards a better future for their members.

They also thanked Mrs. Saleu for her guidance and support. The ceremony ended with a positive outlook and renewed determination to build strong partnerships for the benefit of all stakeholders,

Ramu NiCo Vice President Meng Deyong said he is now satisfied that the workers Union will now perform its duties effectively.
