Lapan Pipi age 36 from Transgogol and Raicoast in Madang province has a lot to say and thank Ramu NiCo for the training he has been receiving.

Mr Pipi is a heavy equipment fitter who walked into the Ramu NiCo’s Refinery in Basamuk, Raicoast in Madang in 2019, with only little experience and a certificate in diesel fitter, a certificate that held a fifty- fifty chances of enabling him to be recruited in a world class mine.

In a world where skilled workers are highly sought after, Ramu NiCo an international Nickel and Cobalt mine took a groundbreaking approach to train its employees, according to Mr Pipi.

Instead of solely basing its recruitment on qualifications, the company also focuses on the ability and interest of individuals to learn and work which produces a highly skilled and satisfied workforce.

Mr Pipi explained that Ramu NiCo’s training program, which is centered on heavy equipment and light motor vehicles, has been a game-changer for both Ramu NiCo and its employees.

“Not only do workers receive hands-on training, but they also earn valuable training qualification certificates,” he said. “We believe that it’s not just about having the right qualifications, but also about having the passion to learn and work.”

“Our training program focuses on both aspects, and the results have been remarkable and satisfying,” he added.

In Ramu NiCo, the heavy equipment filters and light motor vehicle fitters clean, rebuild and repair equipment and machine parts. With the skills and knowledge gained from the training, workers are also able to identify and fix faults, which is crucial for the smooth operation of the company.

“Before joining Ramu NiCo, I didn’t have much experience in handling heavy equipment. But thanks to the training program, I was able to learn and improve my skills,” Mr Pipi said.

Mr Pipi said he does not worry about how much the company pays him but the value in the skill training that the company is providing matters most to him.

He thanked Ramu NiCo for the training that he has received so far and looks forward to more in the future.
