The 14th China Medical Team to PNG initiated a free medical service program at the medical station of the Bogadjim community in Madang Province of Papua New Guinea. This  program aimed to address the local shortage of medical resources and strengthen the health cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Papua New Guinea.

The medical team offered comprehensive medical services, including health consultations, disease diagnoses, and basic treatments, to approximately 340 community residents. During this process, the CA staffs of Ramu NiCo Company played a crucial role as interpreters (since most residents spoke the local Pisin language), facilitating effective communication between doctors and patients. This significantly enhanced the efficiency of communication and the accuracy of treatment. The free medical consultation was conducted in an orderly manner. Doctors patiently interviewed patients about their symptoms, performed detailed examinations, and provided professional advice and preventive guidance regarding common occupational and tropical diseases prevalent in the region.

Recognizing the area’s limited medical infrastructure, the medical team collaborated with Ramu NiCo to donate a set of professional diagnostic instruments and essential medications to the local medical station. This contribution aimed to enhance the station’s basic diagnostic capabilities.

Following the medical consultations, local residents expressed their sincere gratitude. One local resident stated, “The Chinese medical team not only provided a professional diagnosis for my long-standing illness but also distributed disease prevention brochures. This kind of care is truly heartwarming.”

Since 2002, China has consistently dispatched 14 medical teams to Papua New Guinea, delivering over 164,000 person-times medical services to local patients. Additionally, numerous medical training and technology promotion activities have been carried out. This latest medical consultation activity symbolizes a new phase in China’s medical assistance to Papua New Guinea. It is a tangible step in implementing the “Health Silk Road” initiative and a vivid demonstration of the construction of a China-Papua New Guinea community with a shared future.

The selfless dedication and professional services of the Chinese medical team have not only significantly contributed to improving the local people’s living standards but also invigorated the bilateral friendship between the two countries. Looking ahead, China is committed to further strengthening cooperation with Papua New Guinea in the healthcare domain, jointly advancing the construction of a global community for human health.
