Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Ambassador, Yang Xiaoguang on Friday the 12th of December 2025 donated 2000 LED Lights for Madang CBD Roads as part of a recent special Envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China Mr. Huang Runqiu, visited Papua New Guinea to attend the 50th independence anniversary celebration and announced the donation of 2,000 solar powered LED lights to Papua New Guinea.
The 2000 solar powered light that was presented on Friday was a commitment to the country. Meanwhile, with the advantage of Madang Province being home to the largest Chinese Investment in the South Pacific, Ramu Nickel and Cobalt Mine in Madang Province helped pave the way for the lights to arrive in Madang Province.
“The Chinese government’s effort to support Papua New Guinea is sincere and is aimed at bringing service and tangible development to Papua New Guinea with programs in infrastructure, medical services and technology without interfering with national and provincial in-house matters,” His Excellency Ambassador Yang Xiaoguang said.
He said Madang Province is one of the provinces that the Chinese Government has great respect and will continue to work in close collaboration into the future.
“We support each other on the core concerns and major issues concerning each other’s core interests. Especially Papua New Guinea firmly adheres to the One-China principle, both at the central government level and local government level. We fully appreciate that and this has laid down a solid foundation for our bilateral relations,” the Chinese to PNG Ambassador said.
China has always and already provided assistance within their capacity to Papua New Guinea without any political conditions, helping Papua New Guinea to build roads, bridges, schools, power grids, submarine cable network and other small and beautiful livelihood programs and made an important contribution to the development of Papua New Guinea.
We have close people-to-people bonds. China has offered PNG students with Chinese government’s scholarships and other scholarships for 40 consecutive years, and we are also pleased and want to congratulate and welcome Madang City for a successful establishment of a Sister City in Fujian Province.
Governor for Madang, Hon. Ramsey Pariwa who received the lights saluted the Chinese Government for being a true development partner for Madang Province and declared the province as a second home to Chinese Nationals that have worked and lived in the province since the establishment of the Ramu Nickel and Cobalt Project in Madang. “Madang Province and the Chinese Government have a common shared interest through the Ramu Nickel Project and this is a solid foundation for us to work in collaboration into the future,” the Governor said. He also welcome more Chinese investment to come into Madang of PNG.
Hon. Pariwa also thanked the Chinese Embassy and the Government of China for donating the lights that will be put into good use in the Central Business District roads.
“Your Excellency, I salute you, I welcome you and I’m looking forward to working together in collaborative partnership and cooperation going into the future based upon our shared interests and the shared future we have together,” the Madang Governor said.
The Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Ambassador Yang Xiaoguang, also had the opportunity to meet with all the Local Level Government Presidents and Madang Town Mayor during the donation program at the Madang Provincial Government Office.
