On noon of February 10, 2026, there was a commotion in the stairwell corridor of the BSK-CA office. Yansi Ude, the secretary-general of the BSK LOA, urgently pushed open the door of the CA office and said anxiously, “A woman in the community is seriously injured. Please take her to the refinery clinic and let Chinese doctor give treatment.”
After learning about the basic situation in the CA office, the CA staff quickly picked up the injured women who were waiting for urgent treatment in an administrative vehicle and transported her to the refinery clinic in less than ten minutes. Dr. Chen Mingqian and Dr. Ma Jianfeng, two Chinese doctors, and PNG national medical officers quickly transferred the injured woman to the emergency treatment room and carefully examined and diagnosed her. The woman had a severe cut on her left upper arm. The situation was quite critical. The doctors quickly organized medical materials, cleaned and disinfected the wound and its surroundings, to ensure that the injured person can recover quickly and will not have any lingering symptoms later. Doctors did a three-layer meticulous suture surgery on the wound. The whole process was very compact and careful, and the cleaning, disinfection, three-layer meticulous medical suture, bandaging protection, and medication to prevent infection were completed within an hour.
Witnessing the whole process of treatment, the family members of the injured person all had tears in their eyes, and words could not express their gratitude and friendship for being saved.
Since the early stage of project construction, Ramu NiCo has been providing emergency medical services to the community. Not only has a medical aid post been built in the community, but also regular donations of medicines to the clinic have been made every quarter to serve the daily medical needs of the community. Every year, nearly 100 people with serious injuries and illnesses have been saved through emergency medical rescue at the internal clinics of the BSK Refinery and KBK Mine of Ramu NiCo, which has been unanimously recognized by the local community. This is the genuine friendship between the both-side people, also is a demonstration of the company’s fulfillment of its social responsibility.
