From July 7 to 8, the 15th Chinese Medical Team assisting Papua New Guinea traveled to the Ramu Nickel-Cobalt Project’s mine site and Madang base in Madang Province to provide a two-day medical assistance service. The medical team offered health consultations, on-site diagnosis and treatment, and medication guidance to both Chinese and PNG personnel, delivering professional medical services directly to overseas production frontlines.

The medical team comprised physicians from multiple specialties, including cardiology, gynecology, thoracic surgery, and traditional Chinese medicine. In response to the local characteristics of Papua New Guinea’s hot and humid climate, shift work schedules, and the demanding nature of on-site operations, the team provided targeted medical services covering common disease diagnosis, chronic disease management, trauma care, and occupational health consultations to both Chinese and local staff seeking treatment.

At the clinic site, medical staff patiently inquired about each individual’s physical condition, conducted thorough examinations and assessments, and provided diagnostic recommendations and health reminders tailored to each person’s specific circumstances. The team offered professional guidance on common workplace issues such as abnormal blood pressure, occupational fatigue, skin discomfort, and trauma management, helping employees further enhance their self-awareness of health management and improve their disease prevention capabilities.

To ensure the efficient and orderly delivery of medical assistance, the Ramu Project team made advance preparations including venue setup, patient guidance, queue management, and service coordination. Both Chinese and PNG personnel waited in orderly lines for consultations, and through face-to-face interactions with the medical team members, they deeply felt the rigorous and meticulous work ethic and the sincere and warm service attitude of the Chinese medical team.

The Ramu Project has long prioritized the safety and physical and mental health of its employees, continuously improving the mine’s medical support system and emergency response mechanisms. This visit by the 15th Chinese Medical Team to the KBK mine not only further elevated the health support level for frontline employees but also strengthened the friendly exchanges between the Chinese medical team and the local community, demonstrating the sense of responsibility of China’s foreign medical aid teams and deepening the friendship between China and Papua New Guinea.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Papua New Guinea. At this significant historical milestone, the service reach of the Chinese Medical Team assisting Papua New Guinea has continued to expand, with their footsteps extending from the capital of Port Moresby to remote provinces. Since the beginning of this year, team members have successively completed medical tours in New Ireland Province, Enga Province, Western Highlands Province, and Eastern Highlands Province. “The number of outreach medical tours has increased significantly this year, and we want to use this as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of China-PNG diplomatic relations,” the team members said in interviews.

Crossing mountains and seas, boundless is the great love. This love that transcends national borders has been met with the most sincere reciprocation. The medical team has received countless thank-you letters from local residents and overseas Chinese, and the walls of their base are adorned with pennants presented by Chinese enterprises. With 15 teams of members carrying on this legacy in succession, in the dawn of Papua New Guinea, the figures of the Chinese medical team have become a warm and beautiful sight. This “health bridge” they have built with medical expertise and compassion, like the tides of the South Pacific, flows ceaselessly, bearing witness to the enduring and deepening friendship between China and Papua New Guinea.
