MADANG: Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited has extended its warmest congratulations and best wishes to the people of Papua New Guinea as the nation celebrates its 51st Independence Anniversary on September 16, 2026.
Papua New Guinea will mark 51 years as an independent nation since gaining independence from Australia on September 16, 1975.
For Ramu NiCo, the 51st Independence Anniversary is not only a celebration for the country’s achievements over the past five decades, but also an opportunity to reflect on the important role development partners can play in improving the lives of people, particularly those living in rural and remote communities.
Since the commissioning of the Ramu Nickel and Cobalt Mine in Madang Province, Ramu NiCo has made significant contributions to communities in the province through its various community development initiatives like direct and indirect thousands of job opportunities, Procurements and Spin-off Business Contracts over 3.516 Billion Kina, regular medicine donation, school construction, water-supply infrastructure as well as various kinds of culture and sports support.
The company’s presence has touched many lives, particularly in the Rai Coast and Usino Bundi districts, where it has supported communities through investments in education, health, infrastructure development and livelihood programs.
Among its community contributions are the construction and improvement of education and health facilities, teachers’ houses, life-skills training centres and other community infrastructure aimed at improving the quality of life for rural communities.
Through these initiatives, the company has reached some of the more remote and unreached areas of Madang Province, providing support and services in communities where government services and infrastructure are often limited by distance, resources and other challenges.
Ramu NiCo believes that sustainable development is a shared responsibility involving the government, private sector, communities and other development partners.
As Papua New Guinea celebrates 51 years of nationhood, the company acknowledges the resilience, determination and aspirations of the people who continue to contribute to the development and prosperity of the country.
Despite the operational challenges facing the mining industry, Ramu NiCo remains committed to continuing its role as a responsible corporate citizen and development partner, working alongside the Government and communities to support sustainable development.
The company also recognises the traditional landowners and communities who have contributed to the success of the Ramu Nickel and Cobalt Project and acknowledges their continued partnership.
As the nation proudly celebrates its 51st Independence Anniversary, Ramu NiCo joins all Papua New Guineans in celebrating the country’s achievements, diversity, culture and rich potential.
