Ramu NiCo has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting local communities by providing financial assistance towards the annual Kangal Festival in the Rai Coast District of Madang Province on Thursday 10September 2026.

The contribution marks the third consecutive year that Ramu NiCo has supported the festival, which has become an important event for communities around the Sidor Government Station to celebrate and preserve their rich cultural heritage.

Now in its 18th year, the Kangal Festival brings together community members of different ages to showcase traditional dances, cultural attires and customs passed down through generations.

Among the major attractions of the festival are traditional dances from the Rai Coast, which are performed during both day and night celebrations.

Ramu NiCo Community Affairs General Manager Eric Kuman said the company was pleased to continue supporting the important cultural event.

Mr Kuman said the Kangal Festival provides a valuable avenue for communities to maintain their cultural identity and pass their traditions and knowledge from one generation to the next.

He said Ramu NiCo, as part of the Rai Coast community, remained committed to supporting meaningful community activities that promoted cultural preservation and brought people together.

The company’s continued assistance also reflects its broader community engagement program, which seeks to support initiatives that contribute to the social and cultural well-being of communities within its areas of operation and influence.

Kangal Festival Chairman Kevin Murray expressed his appreciation to Ramu NiCo for its continued support of the festival and the people of the Rai Coast.

Mr Murray acknowledged the importance of partnerships such as this in ensuring that cultural events like the Kangal Festival continue to grow and provide opportunities for younger generations to learn about and appreciate their traditional heritage.

The Kangal Festival continues to provide an important platform for the people of Rai Coast to come together, celebrate their identity and ensure that their unique cultural traditions remain alive for future generations.

Ramu NiCo’s support for the festival reinforces the company’s commitment to working alongside communities and supporting initiatives that preserve Papua New Guinea’s rich cultural heritage.
