On April 12, Ramu NiCo successfully convened a meeting with Polio Tailao and Saniel Yanewai, inspectors from the MRA of Papua New Guinea (PNG), at Madang Base. The discussions focused on strengthening mine safety management and enhancing contractor oversight, solidifying bilateral cooperation while charting a clear path forward for Ramu NiCo’s safety-driven development.

During the talk, MRA inspectors commended Ramu NiCo’s notable achievements in safety management. Ramu NiCo detailed its latest advancements in contractor management, supply chain due diligence, ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System certification, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices. Inspector Polio Tailao acknowledged Ramu NiCo’s exemplary performance in mining safety while highlighting opportunities for further optimization in contractor management. In response, President Dong Gaofeng emphasized Ramu NiCo’s commitment to establishing a globally leading mine safety management system. Since early 2025, Ramu NiCo has implemented full-cycle supervision of contractors—from onboarding to offboarding—through optimized management mechanisms, dedicated task forces, and enhanced policies. Additionally, rigorous supply chain due diligence ensures all suppliers and contractors comply with international standards and legal requirements.

Regarding ISO 45001 certification, President Dong Gaofeng underscored that achieving this milestone demonstrates Ramu NiCo’s alignment with global occupational health and safety benchmarks. He also highlighted Ramu NiCo’s proactive ESG initiatives, which aim to harmonize economic, social, and environmental outcomes.

The meeting featured extensive discussions on advancing corporate safety practices. Vice President Meng Deyong and Jia Xijun, Deputy Chief Engineer Li Gang, and Registered Manager of the BSK Refinery, Bill Hil, shared insights on recent progress in their respective domains.

Conducted in a matey atmosphere, the talk reinforced mutual understanding and trust between Ramu NiCo and the PNG Ministry of Mining. Both parties pledged to deepen collaboration to promote the safety and sustainable development of PNG’s mining sector, laying a robust foundation for future cooperation.

Looking ahead, Ramu NiCo remains steadfast in its “safety-first” principle, continuously enhancing safety management and environmental stewardship to contribute to the prosperity of PNG’s mining industry.
