A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between  Ramu NiCo in Madang and the Papua New Guinea University of Technology on Monday 16 June, 2025, to improve research that would improve the grading of Nickel.

This partnership would provide Ramu NiCo with access to the research facilities, experts and resources for the PNG University of Technology. Ramu NiCo would also be able to collaborate on joint research projects and share knowledge and findings and that would greatly benefit the company in terms of innovation and improving its processes.

In addition, the partnership would also provide opportunities for Ramu NiCo employees to undergo trainings and further education at the university and would not only benefit the individual employees, but also contribute to the overall development of the company.

The MoU would also help strengthen the relationship between Ramu Nickel and the local communities.

The University has a strong presence in the community and Ramu NiCo believes that this partnership would help to better understand the needs and concerns of the community.

Ultimately, the goal of this MoU is to drive innovation and continuous improvement in the Ramu NiCo. The company now looks forward to the achievements and benefits that would come from it.

Vice Chancellor of the PNG University of Papua New Guinea Ora Renagi said his focus was for the university to be a world class university and his definition of world class is one where the science and technology is transferred to impact livelihood of our people and China does it really well.

“I believed that the success of the university is measured by how much impact it has on the livelihood of the people. “

Mr Renagi said he want to see the university flourishing with technology and science.

According to Renagi, The PNG University of Technology has become the knowledge hub of science and technology to support the mining industry and development within the country.

Mr Renagi applauded Ramu NiCo for taking the right step in that direction and stay focus on research and training of expertise in research and technology.

Working committee would be formed enhance further implementation of the MOU.

Ramu NiCo chairman Wang Zhou said Ramu NiCo was pleased to enter the agreement with the university. Mr Wang presented a cheque to the Research and Engineering Department of the PNG University of Technology to strengthen the new partnership.
