On September 15, to celebrate Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary, Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd. Basamuk Refinery proudly hosted a basketball friendship match between Chinese and PNG national employees. The event showcased the company’s commitment to cultural inclusivity and its deep care for the local workforce.

The PNG team entered the game at a disadvantage, with several key players absent on leave. Despite this, they delivered an energetic performance. The match concluded with a 74–63 victory for the Chinese team, but not without spirited resistance from the PNG colleagues. At halftime, the Chinese side held a 13-point lead. Immediately after the break, however, the PNG team thrilled the crowd with an impressive 14–0 run to briefly edge ahead by one point, demonstrating teamwork, determination, and resilience.

Beyond the competition, the event strengthened bonds between Chinese and PNG colleagues, reflecting the harmonious and collaborative spirit that defines Ramu NiCo.

Tyson, captain of the PNG team, expressed his gratitude after the match:
“We PNG nationals really appreciate our company for organizing this friendly game as part of the PNG 50th Independence Celebrations. It is great to play with our Chinese colleagues, to know each other better, work together, and create a stronger workplace at Ramu NiCo Basamuk. We look forward to more of such games during special holidays in the future.”

The basketball match served as a vivid example of Ramu NiCo’s ongoing efforts to promote cross-cultural exchange and boost employee morale. The company remains committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and dynamic working environment in Papua New Guinea. (TAN ZHIREN)
