Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited was honored to host the 2025 PNG Mining (Safety & Health) Regulators and Mining Leaders Colloque in Madang Province on November 13th and 14th, an event recognized by the Papua New Guinea Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) for its outstanding success. The two-day forum served as a pivotal platform for strengthening safety collaboration across the nation’s mining sector.

The program commenced with delegates visiting Ramu NiCo’s flagship Kurumbukari Mine Site and Basamuk Refinery Site. The site tours showcased the company’s advanced operational technology and unwavering commitment to high safety and environmental standards, which were highly commended by attendees. Mr. Lave Michael, Chief Inspector of Mines for the MRA, along with representatives from Ok Tedi Mine, Newmont, Hidden Valley, Tolukuma Mine, and Pacific Lime and Cement, applauded Ramu NiCo as a very unique project in the country, expressing strong appreciation for the advanced technology witnessed during the site visits.

The event continued with a day-long conference at the Jais Aben Resort, culminating in a dinner at the Madang Resort Hotel. During his opening address, Mr. Jason Jia, Vice President of Ramu NiCo, underscored the company’s safety philosophy. “At Ramu NiCo, safety is the absolute core of everything we do, in every task, every shift, and every decision,” Mr. Jia stated. “We are committed to continuous improvement in safety management and emergency preparedness. Through open dialogue and strong partnerships between regulators and operators, we can collectively elevate safety, environmental stewardship, and the sustainability of PNG’s mining industry.”

The Colloque also provided a platform for announcing Papua New Guinea’s key mining safety initiatives for 2026. In a highlight of the evening, our company Chairman, Mr. Wang Zhou, was granted the privilege to make a significant announcement during the gala dinner.

“It was Ramu NiCo’s privilege to host this year’s Colloque,” said Mr. Wang Zhou. “I am also grateful to announce that the 2026 edition will be hosted in New Ireland Province, with Newmont as the host resources developer.”

Furthermore, MRA Managing Director Mr. Garry Jerry announced the return of the National Mine Emergency Response and Training Challenge for November 2026 in Port Moresby, while Mr. Lave Michael, revealed the 2026 National Mine Safety Week would be held in March under the theme “Building and Sustaining an Effective Safety System and Safety Culture.”

Ramu NiCo extends its sincere gratitude to the MRA, all regulators, and fellow industry leaders for their participation and constructive dialogue. We are proud to have contributed to advancing the safety culture of PNG’s mining sector and look forward to continuing this critical work.
