At 8:00 am on May 12, 2026, the CA Department of the Ramu NiCo refinery received an urgent request for help. A villager named Gabo Dinding had injured the third toe of his right foot after being struck by a falling tree. The wound was bleeding heavily. He had already crossed the river from his village, Dein, on the opposite bank of the water source, and arrived by boat at the Nagalau temporary wharf, asking for assistance from the company.

Upon receiving the request, the Site Manager of the CA Department immediately contacted Doctor. Ma Jianfeng, the company’s resident physician. They quickly drove to pick up the injured man from the temporary wharf and transported him to the refinery clinic.

At the clinic, Doctor. Ma and the local nurse cleaned and disinfected the wound and administered local anaesthesia. They found that the plantar side of the middle to distal segment of the right third toe was missing flesh, and the distal phalanx was shattered. An immediate operation was required to remove the remaining wounded distal phalanx, cover the plantar defect with a free skin flap, and perform VY suture closure.

With the consent of the injured man and his accompanying family members — witnessed by local staff from the CA Department—the Chinese and Papua New Guinean doctors decisively and promptly performed the surgery. The operation lasted nearly one hour. While such procedures may be common minor surgeries in large hospitals, it requires highly professional and skillful personnel for a clinic. Throughout the process, the doctors demonstrated excellent technique and strong professional competence.

After the surgery, the doctors carefully disinfected and bandaged the wound, prepared necessary medications for the patient, and repeatedly advised him to keep the injured foot clean and to avoid getting the wound wet.

The injured villager and his family expressed deep gratitude to the doctors for their timely and professional treatment, and to the CA Department for arranging transport to the clinic. The CA Site Manager then drove the injured man and his accompanying family back to the temporary wharf, allowing them to return home by boat to recover.
