Ramu NiCo recently officially opened a new double classroom for Ennekuai Primary School in Ward 22 of Bundi LLG.
The double classroom with a large Office Space was funded through the Kurumbukari Landowner Association Community Development Fund ( CDF ) from the developer of the Nickel and Cobalt Mine in Madang Province. The CDF fund was for its four major Landowner Associations to use in their association for projects affiliation in the respective impacted communities.
Ramu NiCo Community Affairs Department General Manager Mr Eric Kuman said the classrooms that was opened was an indication of Ramu NiCo’s commitment to nation building in education and infrastructure for marginalised communities who are cut out from government services based on their remoteness.
He said despite Ennekuai being a community that is the customary landowner of the Ramu Nickel and Cobalt Mine in Madang Province has not being assisted by Government Services in past years in terms of health and education. They have been depending only on the mine since the inception till now.
“Communities along Kurumbukari, Daunagari, Banu and parts of the communities along the patch of road leading to Brahman have been relaying and depending from the mine for infrastructure programs under its Landowner Association and its Community Development Fund program and that is something the provincial authorities need also to take into consideration,” Kuman said.
Through Ramu NiCo’s Social and Corporate Responsibility, the mine has so far contributed and assisted communities with basic necessities such as education, health, water supply, employment opportunity, training and infrastructure that paved the way for human integral development that will last a lifetime for Ennekuai village and other villages along the Inland Pipeline, Coastal Pipeline and Basamuk Refinery areas.
“Today, I am glad to be here to open this new classroom for Ennekuai Primary School. This classroom is not just a building, it’s the first step for your children and parents to see a bigger outside world, for you to travel around Papua New Guinea and overseas,” Kuman said.
Kuman also appreciated Ennekuai Primary School Board and Management for completing a second new double classroom that was also opened on the same day. The double classroom was built by the school through its tuition fees and contribution from other local landowner business partners along the vicinity of the mine.
